North Carolina-based utility Duke Energy has announced that it is making available approximately $4.66 million in funding for habitat enhancement along the Catawbee-Wateree and the Keowee-Toxaway rivers. In recent years, the company has already contributed approximately $1.9 million to conservation projects in these areas.

Applications for the funds will be accepted between 1 May and 31 July 2017, with successful applicants announced in the Fall. The average awards given are between $10,000 and $50,000. Funds can be used for a variety of projects, from planting native vegetation to purchasing property to preserve habitats.
